Can you really have it all?
Some say yes and some say no! Which one are you?
Do you have a story of a breakthrough you had that has allowed you to truly master having it all? What was your success recipe?
Or do you disagree with the idea of having true balance, yet you do have a happy functioning household?
Or, are you none of the above?
Do you believe balance is achievable in this busy world?
If you have a story on either side of this topic and would love to become a co-author in my next compilation, this is your time!
I grew up in a household where we did eat dinner each night together. This nightly routine was very normal for our family. My mom worked outside the home and my dad was an entrepreneur and worked very long hours.
My life was balanced as far as I knew while growing up.
However, as I married, worked full time, and began raising our three kids, the ideology of balance faded very quickly. Between demands of careers, kids activities, volunteer commitments, meal prepping, and all the other day to day things that crept in, I began to think of myself as a failure. It seemed I could not do what others managed to do so seamlessly. This was before the days of social media, and I know what impact that has had on striving to have a seemingly “balanced” life.
Then, the true test day happened.
My husband got his deployment orders. He was a United States Military reservist who had been recalled to go to Afghanistan. Our kids were 8, 5, and 3 at the time, and I felt like I had been throat punched. I was already busy…what was this going to be like? I figured I could do it all because that is what we do. That lasted all of 3 months! I was tired, stressed, and worn out. And did I mention I gained 20 lbs during those 3 months? Because I did.
I knew regardless of what anyone thought, I needed to reclaim my life for the sake of myself and my family. That was step 1 toward finding my balance. I emptied my calendar and took my kids out of all activities until I could reset and regroup. The short version is I implemented boundaries, asked for support, and was very clear with my friends of what I could do. Things changed, and I was restructuring my life to suit my needs for my health and new family situation.
I also learned balance was just a word and was different for each person and each family.
The strategies and mindset I implemented almost 10 years ago have been daily practices in my life since then and most recently have been tested over the last 2 years as I have grown my business by 95% in 8 months. During that time I have also doubled my team while still working part time in my career, which I wholeheartedly love.
